Dr. Tom Cox grew up in Florida and attended the University of Florida for undergraduate studies and the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.

He graduated in 1983 and worked for Dr. Jackson in St. Augustine until 1984. At that time he purchased Venetia Animal Clinic from Dr. Charles Athey. This hospital was located on Roosevelt Blvd near the Pizza Hut. In 1988, he built Timuquana Animal Hospital and moved to the present location.

Dr. Cox was the President of the Jacksonville Veterinary Medical Association in 1994-1995. In 1997, he was honored by the Florida Veterinary Medical Association with the Gold Star Award for outstanding contributions to veterinary medicine.

Dr. Cox is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, the Jacksonville Veterinary Medical Society and the American Heartworm Society.

He has two children and multiple pets.
